Tourism, culture and influence

As I’ve explained in Great Works page, Great Works generate tourism. We can gain tourism bonus if we array Great Works in buildings (I’ve also explained this in Great Works page).

We can also gain tourism against a specific civilization, with great musicians, concert tour ability. (Explained in great musician page).

Every civilization have their own tourism value, and a total culture value. Influence is very complicated i will explain simple as possible.

To have influence against a civilization, our tourism should exceed the target civilizations culture. Our culture doesn’t matter on us influencing another civilization, it’s just defence against other civilizations tourism and influence. Culture blocks them from being influential on us.

Similarly, if any civilizations tourism exceeds our culture, they are influential on us.

To sum up, we can think them as this way;

  • Tourism: Offensive
  • Culture: Defensive

With this screen, we can examine our influence against other civilizations.
The part I’ve marked with number one is: our tourisms affect against target civilizations culture.
Number 2 is: The tourism multiplier that changes with some factors. (I’ve described below)
And next to number 2, you can see the tourism value after multiplied by multiplier.

Factors affecting tourism multiplier;

With Target civilization;

If we have a trade route: 25% bonus.
Same ideology: 33% bonus
Different ideology: reduced by -33%

With gathering influences by all civilizations, Public opinion is calculated by the game. This public opinion list can be seen below;

The happiness effect can be seen in the table. This unhappiness is created by foreign civilizations that have different ideology, and their influence on us. We can generate unhappiness on foreign civilizations (with different ideology), if we have influence on them. (Meaning, we have enough tourism to surpass their culture.)
Unhappiness increases with population. You can compare this in the image. (Spain has the revolutionary wave, which is worst case. But they have -18 unhappiness. If they had the population that I have, they would most probably get -40 unhappiness.)

To achieve cultural victory, we simply need to have influence against “all” foreign civilizations. This can be seen in above picute (example: celtic is the closest to cultural victory in image above, with influencing 1 of 6 civilizations.) . We receive cultural victory as we have influence against all civilizations.
